How to make a circle profile picture

  1. Add your photo by dropping it in, choosing a file, or pasting it.
  2. Drag and zoom until your face sits in the middle of the circle. Everything outside the dashed line is cut off.
  3. Choose a background. Leave it transparent for most uses, or fill with a colour if your image is a cut-out.
  4. Add a border if you like, then download the PNG.

Where a circle PNG is useful

  • Email signatures. Most email apps show images as squares, so a transparent circle is the only way to get a round photo.
  • Websites and team pages, where a round headshot needs to sit on a coloured section.
  • Presentations and CVs. Drop the PNG onto a slide or document without fiddling with crop masks.
  • Consistent sets. Use the same size and border for a whole team so the photos match.

Uploading to a social network?

You don't need this tool for that. Sites that show profile pictures as circles expect a square image and crop it themselves, and a pre-cut circle can end up with a visible edge. Frequently asked questions

Do I need a circle image for my profile picture?

Usually not. Most sites, including Google, LinkedIn, X, Instagram and Discord, take a square photo and crop it to a circle themselves. A circle PNG is useful where nothing crops it for you: email signatures, websites, slide decks, team pages and CVs.

Why PNG and not JPEG?

JPEG can't store transparency, so the corners outside the circle would be filled with a colour. PNG keeps them see-through, so the circle sits cleanly on any background.

Can I add a coloured ring around my photo?

Yes. Tick Add a border, pick a colour, and set the width. The border scales with the export size, so it looks the same at 256 or 1024 pixels.

What size should I download?

512 × 512 suits most uses. Choose 1024 for print or large displays, and 256 for email signatures, where a smaller file loads faster.

Is my photo uploaded?

No. The crop and the PNG are created in your browser, and your photo never reaches our servers.
