About ProfilePicLab

ProfilePicLab is a small set of free tools for making profile pictures: animated Gmail avatars, Google profile pictures, circle crops, GIFs and correctly sized photos for every major platform. There's no account, no watermark and no upload.

Who's behind it

ProfilePicLab is built and run by Bhavesh Narsai at BAV Tech Solutions, a web design and IT business in Bolton, UK. Bhavesh has spent over a decade in IT support and technical consultancy, and builds websites and tools for small businesses.

The site grew out of a single free tool: an animated Gmail avatar generator on the BAV Tech Solutions website. People kept finding it through Google, so ProfilePicLab gives it a proper home and adds the other profile picture jobs people ask about.

How the tools work

Every tool runs entirely in your web browser. When you add a photo, your browser reads it from your device and does the cropping, resizing, animation and file encoding itself, using standard browser features (the Canvas API, and a Web Worker for GIF encoding). Your image is never sent to our servers or anyone else's.

You can check this yourself: open your browser's developer tools, go to the Network tab, and use any tool. You'll see the page's own files load, and no upload when you add or download an image.

How we keep the guidance accurate

• Sizes come from the platforms themselves. Where a platform publishes its requirements (Google, LinkedIn, Slack, X, Microsoft), we use its own help pages, and link to them.
• Everything is dated. Platform presets record when they were last checked, and guides show when they were last updated.
• We say what we don't know. Platforms change how profile pictures behave, for example where animated GIFs play. Where behaviour varies, we say so rather than promise it.

How the site is funded

The tools are free. In future the site may show a small number of clearly labelled ads to cover running costs. Ads will never be placed inside a tool, and they never have access to your images.
